Arrows of Heracles

Through his work “Heracles”  Antoine Bourdelle  depicts the archer killing the birds of the lake Stymphalus in Arcadia.

However  ,  the artist  never renders the arrows of the demigod: Bourdelle merely suggests the action.  .  .

The  orientation of the arrows indicates that they were shot from the Musée Ingres in Montauban, where the original plaster of Heracles is located. At the foot of the sculpture, the slabs of the square are shattered, indicating the immediacy and power of the archer's gesture
